Membership types and benefits
You may apply for membership by simply filling in the online
Application Form.
When applying, pay attention to use the appropriate form for your requested membership status on the basis of the description.
For individual applicants, there are 4 categories of membership:
Regular member
This category of membership is for young scientists, preferably between 15 and 40 years of age, with or
without affiliation to any other organization, society etc. In cases where the
age principle is not applicable (e.g. older but still early stage researcher),
you may apply for special consideration.
Note: Regular members getting over the age of 40 and having considerable professional experience may
be transferred to senior members.
Senior member
This category is open to individuals over 40 years of age, with substantial career progression and who
can offer evidence of seniority and maturity of experience in any field which
involves or promotes the advancement or wider application of S&T.
Furthermore, longstanding
members of WAYS may be transferred to Senior Membership, conferring nearly all
the privileges of regular membership.
Affiliate member
This category of membership is for those who have an interest in science and its advancement through the
activities of WAYS, but are not directly involved in R&D. Generally, affiliates
are supporting persons active in education, management, industry, government,
and media worldwide.
Honorary member
For this category of membership you cannot apply directly. This honor is reserved for individuals who
have made key or long-standing contributions to Science or to the Organization.
The Honorary President of WAYS is Nobel laureate Prof. Leon Lederman, who made an outstanding contribution
to Science (awarded by the Nobel prize in physics in 1988) as well as to the
community of young scientists.
